Novgorod region is on the 7th place in the investment climate ranking of the Russian regions. The result is better in comparison with 2020 (11th place). Our region is the best in the Northwestern Federal District in terms of the investment climate. The results were announced at Saint Petersburg international economic forum on June 4.

The ranking is based on interviewing entrepreneurs. It evaluates speed and ease of administrative procedures, availability and quality of the needed infrastructure and resources, support measures for business in the region. 40 out of 85 regions have improved their rank compared to 2020.

The head of the region Andrey Nikitin commented upon the results.
“This is an assessment of entrepreneurs’ work during the covid year, of the work of a big team, of Novgorod region development agency. It’s an assessment of our measures to support the entrepreneurs. Now we need to work even better to keep this position and to move further. It gives us more opportunities for making a special economic zone, but it also means more responsibility. It’s very important for me that we are the best in the Northwestern Federal District”, - said Andrey Nikitin.
He added that the support measures and simplified format of working with business during the pandemic will be kept.
The regions managed to improve their positions due to shortening the time for different bureaucratic procedures. Support of SMEs also had a positive influence upon business climate. The entrepreneurs noted that this year is has become easier to rent premises and loan accessibility has considerably grown. Administrative pressure upon entrepreneurs has become smaller.
“It is the 1st time since the ranking has appeared. Last year the government decided to cancel checks for a while, and we see the result. The comprehensive work carried out by the has also brought to the result”/ - underline CEO of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives Svetlana Chupsheva.
The way to introduce the results of the ranking is also different this year. According to Svetlana Chupsheva, more than half of the regions have an insignificant difference, that’s why positions of similar regions were united.
During 4 years our region has grown by 46 positions in the investment ranking. In 2017 Novgorod region was the 53rd, 29th in 2018, 14th in 2019.
