This statement was made by the Novgorod Region Governor Andrey Nikitin at the meeting of the RF Ministry of Science and Higher Education work group on matters pertaining to formation and implementation of the Federal project for creation of campuses within the framework of the “Science and Universities” National Project. It was held in the format of video conference. The meeting was held by RF Minister of Science and Higher Education Valery Falkov.
As reported by the Regional Government Press Centre, Andrey Nikitin told the meeting participants about the work on creation of a campus in the Novgorod Region. It is suitable for accommodation of 4,000 students. According to the plans, in addition to the residential buildings the site will have a technology park, swimming pool, coworking facilities and infrastructure for rendering the necessary services to the campus residents. Here the young people will be able to do scientific work, engage in sports activities and implement projects. The total area of the complex is around 77,000 square meters.
“There is a concept approved by the city and regional authorities. The residential building will be located in Veliky Novgorod within 300 meters from the Novgorod University building and within 1 km from the building of the Novgorod Technical School. It all is a part of complex development of our urban environment. Considering the current development pace of production enterprises, we are facing a rather acute personnel problem, so our enterprises are happy to be involved in implementation of this project. These include radio electronics companies, all residents of the Innovations Valley and the Novgorod Special Economic Zone. Currently the design and survey work is being performed. We are waiting for the necessary documents to be issued. If possible, we are ready to start construction ahead of schedule, as early as at the end of this year,” Andrey Nikitin said.
The Governor also added that the region counts on assistance and support from the RF Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
It is worth mentioning that the Novgorod Region’s requisition for construction of a world-class student campus was approved by the Russian Government last December. The total cost of the project is 10 billion roubles, including both Federal and regional funding.
