Preparation of the site for construction of a modern university campus started in Veliky Novgorod. The site is located near the main building of Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University, it has an area of around 3.8 ha.
The former maintenance building has already been demolished there. It was in disrepair. In the nearest future the construction site will be provided with temporary roads and parking areas, electricity, video surveillance, checkpoints, construction machines washing posts and all related infrastructure.
General Director of Novgorodskaya SEZ Artur Ayupov pointed out that all interested Novgorod companies will be participating in this major scale construction project.
“According to the plans, the campus will be put into operation in 2026. By that time construction of residential premises for 4,000 students, educators and employees of the Novgorod SEZ will be completed. Our partners from the Alabuga SEZ have experience in implementation of a similar project. A major educational centre training skilled factory workers is currently functioning in Tatarstan. 10 thousand specialists graduate from that centre every year,” Artur Ayupov pointed out.
It is worth mentioning that the Novgorod Region’s requisition for construction of a world-class student campus was approved by the RF Government in December 2022. The total cost of the project is 10 billion roubles, including 6 billion roubles in funds from the Federal budget.
“For the Novgorod Region Government this is a strategically important project, and we are actively engaged in the work. The initiative connected with creation of campuses is a part of the “Science and Universities” National Project being implemented by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. The concept of the Novgorod project envisages the creation of a possibility for students and young scientists not only to study and conduct scientific research at the modern, well equipped facilities, but also to live, create and work in comfortable conditions. The project will make it possible to attract students from other regions of the country. As a result, the Novgorod Region will be provided with new, qualified personnel,” Deputy Chairperson of the Novgorod Region Government Oksana Belokrylova pointed out.
The initiative connected with creation of campuses is aimed at engagement of talented youth in science, greater involvement of the professional community in efficient solution of strategically important issues in the area of science, and at formation of full awareness on the part of the public regarding the breakthroughs of Russian science via interaction between the state, scientific and business communities. On 26–28 April the delegation of Novgorod will take part in the strategic session in Moscow within the framework of the “Modern Campus Network Creation” Federal Project where the project of the university campus in Veliky Novgorod will be presented.
As a reminder, the Novgorod SEZ is created in the region under management of the Alabuga SEZ team. It functions within the framework of the “Formation and Development of Modern Infrastructure in the Novgorod Region for Entities Involved in Investment and Business Activities” regional priority project.
