The delegation is headed by the Novgorod Region Governor Andrey Nikitin. It includes First Deputy Governor of the Novgorod Region Evgeny Bogdanov, Deputy Government Chairman Ilya Malenko, Mayor of Veliky Novgorod Aleksandr Rosbaum, Rector of Yaroslav the Wise Novgorod State University Yury Borovikov and representatives of the Region’s leading enterprises.
The delegation of Novgorod took part in the Chinese-Russian Business Forum. At its opening ceremony Andrey Nikitin congratulated the Chinese colleagues with reelection of Chinese leader Xi Jinping Chairman of the PRC. He expressed confidence that the strategic partnership between China and Russia will continue to grow stronger.
Among participants of the Forum were Director of the National Committee for Economic, Trade and Cultural Cooperation of China Society for World Trade Organisation Studies Chen Yuanxuan and President of Opory Rossii Aleksandr Kalinin. He pointed out that over the recent years bilateral trade and economic relations between Russia and China have been booming: the commodity turnover is growing, investment cooperation is expanding, there is an increasing interest in cooperation on the part of both Russian and Chinese businessmen.
The share of the People’s Republic of China in foreign trade turnover of the Novgorod Region in recent years remains at the steady level of
10–17%. The Region’s main exports to China are mineral fertilisers, timber and timber articles. The share of import from the Republic to the Novgorod Region constitutes 46% of the total imports and continues to grow.
“For us China is an important prospective partner. Currently there are 14 enterprises with Chinese capital operating in the Novgorod Region. They are engaged in vegetable and crop growing, timber harvesting and sawn timber production. Alongside with that, our businessmen express growing interest in Chinese marketplaces. E-commerce reduces the impact of borders and offers much greater probability of finding customers. This year the Novgorod Export Support Centre is ready to help the business to enter such electronic trading platforms popular in China as Alibaba and Pinkoi. In other words, we are counting on expansion of cooperation in many areas. Within the framework of the visit we are actively negotiating with Chinese businessmen and we see the reciprocal interest,” First Deputy Governor of the Novgorod Region Evgeny Bogdanov said.
The forum program also included В2В sessions between Chinese and Russian companies, during which the businessmen get to know each other, share the experience in doing business, business contacts and cooperation proposals.
During its visit to China delegation of the Novgorod Region is planning to visit Beijing, Shanghai, as well as Zibo, which is a sister city of Veliky Novgorod, to demonstrate the Region’s economic potential and establish working connections between business community representatives.
