The export of the Novgorod region to the Arab Republic of Egypt is increasing. If in 2021 it amounted to $10 million, then in 2022 it will be $16.4 million. In the current year, the growth dynamics continue. Sergey Shvedkin, Deputy Minister of Investment Policy of the Novgorod Region, stated this during a video conference with Alexey Tevanyan, Trade Representative of the Russian Federation in Egypt. The event was initiated by the Novgorod Export Support Centre with the participation of Novgorod business.
“Egypt is a long-term partner of the region. In terms of export volumes, this state in 2022 rose to 22nd place from 26th, and according to the results of the first quarter of 2023, it took 6th place. Imports are also growing. Egypt is interesting to our businessmen.” noted Sergey Shvedkin.
The trade representative, in his turn, emphasised that Russia is a strategic partner for Egypt. The Republic has not joined Western sanctions, Russian goods are freely supplied to the Egyptian market.
“Egypt is friendly to our companies. This region is the “gateway” to the Arab world, to Africa. It should be taken seriously.” says Alexey Tevanyan.
The Trade Representation is ready to help Novgorod business with the search for partners, give guidance on international exhibitions worth participating in, as well as on the demand for certain products. So, today Egypt is interested in agricultural products, building materials, agricultural machinery, generators, pumps, equipment, high-tech products. According to the Trade Representative, the Egyptians draw the attention of their partners to the possibility of localising production on the territory of the Republic, the creation of joint ventures. Alexey Tevanyan is convinced that cooperation between Russia and Egypt will become more effective after the conclusion of a free trade agreement between Egypt and the Eurasian Economic Union and the construction of a Russian industrial zone in Egypt.
Let us add that this year similar videoconferences for entrepreneurs have already been held with the Trade Representatives of Russia in Malaysia and Morocco. During them, the business gets acquainted with the peculiarities of export and import, asks questions, receives recommendations.
The Novgorod Export Support Centre organises events for entrepreneurs with the assistance of the Ministry of Investment within the framework of the national projects "International Cooperation and Export", "Small and Medium Enterprises".
