Veliky Novgorod to get a funicular across the Volkhov

The funicular’s departure station will be situated adjacent to the planned laboratory building. The receiving station will be easily accessible, within walking distance from the reversal ring on Studencheskaya Street.
The length of the road will be 535 meters, with the cabins moving at a speed of three meters per second. The trip will take three minutes. The funicular will have nine eight-seater cabins.

The proposed funicular will enhance connectivity within the pedestrian area and improve accessibility to sites on the opposite banks of the Volkhov River. It will link the laboratories of the Intelligent Electronics - Valdai Scientific and Technical Centre with the Novgorod State University institute, located near the Antoniev Monastery, a hotel, and a sports stadium. Additionally, the funicular will connect the pedestrian area under construction near the Intelligent Electronics - Valdai facilities with the 30th Anniversary of October Park, creating a cohesive recreational space for city residents starting from the Kremlin Park, as explained by the Ministry of
Construction, Architecture and Property Relations of the Novgorod Region.

The construction of the funicular is planned to be completed by the end of 2025.
